The Bandwidth Management Advisory Service (BMAS) has been withdrawn as from 1st August 2010.

BMAS focussed on providing advice in using tools and methods in three areas, as follows:

Reduction of use of bandwidth:

  • Caching, typically via web caches

  • Traffic management, including traffic shaping and throttling

  • Content filtering, including smart inspection devices

  • Data compression

  • Content delivery infrastructure

Prioritisation of traffic:

  • Quality of Service methods

Traffic analysis:

  • Network monitoring
